Canada will soon have a new U.S. ambassador. On Wednesday, the U.S. Senate confirmed the nomination of Bruce Heyman, a partner at Goldman Sachs in Chicago.

Soon after the announcement, Heyman took to Twitter to convey his excitement about the new position.

Foreign Affairs Minister John Baird also used Twitter to congratulate the new ambassador.

Baird’s director of communications, Rick Roth, issued a statement expressing Canada’s enthusiasm about the nomination.

“Canada looks forward to working closely with ambassador-designate Heyman to continue to build on the strong relationship with the Obama Administration and advance our shared priorities, including job creation and long-term prosperity for Canadians and Americans,” the statement said.

Heyman and his wife Vicki have been fundraisers for Barack Obama since 2007.

During his nomination hearing in Washington last December, he pledged to deepen economic and environmental ties between Canada and the United States

He also said he would use his years of experience at Goldman Sachs to help expand trade between Canada and the U.S.

Bruce Heyman will replace David Jacobson, whose four-year term ended in July 2013.
